Last night we were made very proud at the OCTG Annual Apprentice Awards evening as our two nominees both walked away with trophies and accolades (not to mention cheques!). The OCTG Awards are the showpiece in the group’s calendar where the cream of Oxfordshire’s construction Apprentices are recognised and celebrated, with awards for those who have particularly stood out in terms of skill, character and commitment.
Robbie Powell, Site Carpenter from Chipping Norton Builders, walked away with the award for Level 3 (Advanced) Apprentice of the Year. Robbie recently completed his Apprenticeship and we are in no doubt, he has more great things ahead of him. Well done to Joe Johnson from Chipping Norton Builders for supporting and guiding Robbie, and for a great testimony in putting him forward for the award.
And in a change from the planned awards list, we were delighted when the Awards Committee announced that they had decided to introduce a new award, a ‘Special Recognition’ category, to commend an Apprentice who had been nominated for one of the awards. This was to recognise their exceptional commitment and dedication to his trade. We were even more delighted when they announced that the winner of that award was non other than our own Samm Murphy from Wain & Francis Ltd. Samm’s commitment to his trade and contribution to W&F’s ‘Trade School’ programme impressed the Committee. Trade School is a two year schools programme devised by Richard Francis and we are working with Richard to deliver that through funding received from Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
So a great night for Robbie and Samm, for their proud bosses Joe and Richard, and also for ourselves. We’re always pushing our Apprentices to be the best they can be…..Robbie and Samm have just set the bar a bit higher now!
