Local construction skills in focus during National Apprenticeship Week

During National Apprenticeship Week last week, we featured in a front-page story run by the Oxford Mail on skills shortages in the construction industry. Both our Training Director and Managing Director were interviewed and offered comment on a worrying issue for the industry.

We do believe working with schools is very important – and indeed last Thursday evening our Trade School programme was being run at the annual Apprenticeship Fair at North Oxfordshire Academy for students from local schools – and we will continue to offer every possible support we can there. We are also running a special Taster Day for students who are thinking about leaving school after GCSEs, on 6th April.

But as our MD says, for that to be relevant and effective, there needs to be more jobs and Apprenticeship opportunities for young people to go into. There’s no substitute for it.

We were delighted to get a call from BBC South today asking if they could come and interview us off the back of the article, which we were more than delighted to do. Our Apprentice Liaison Lyndsey Fitzpatrick did a fine job talking about our work an the need for more local opportunities.
